I have had vitiligo since I was 8 years old. My vitiligo started as a small spot on my foot before spreading to my knees, elbows, hands, and face within a couple of years. I have gone through several forms of treatment to repigment my skin. I was not always confident and strong. In 2012, I founded the DFW Vitiligo Support Group in the Dallas metroplex. Since then, my journey has been beautiful and I have learned to love my spots!

ABOUT MEDHA

PROJECT CONCEPT

The purpose for my project is to raise awareness about vitiligo and the psychological effects of having a skin condition. It is a common misconception that vitiligo is only a cosmetic disease; there is more to vitiligo that lies beyond what the eyes can see and I hope my project taps into some experiences that are difficult to put into words. Every individual's journey with vitiligo is different, so I hope to address various aspects of vitiligo from both an artistic and clinical standpoint.

Art has been one of my greatest passions since I was 7 years old. This project allows me to combine my experiences as a patient, an art enthusiast, and a human being.

If you have vitiligo, I hope to give you not only a reason to be happy, but also confidence and courage to embrace your spots and go out into the world to live your life. If you do not have vitiligo, I hope to provide you with a unique perspective in the shoes of a vitiligan.

Special thanks

This project is a collaboration between me and my father. I would like to thank my father, Sathish Iyer, for his beautiful photography and for making this project a reality.
